Position Overview:
The Learning Consultant position is housed in the Academic Resource Center (ARC) within the Office of Undergraduate Advising. This position is responsible for enhancing undergraduate learning at Duke Kunshan University by developing innovative programming and providing specialized academic support to students in self-regulated learning, time management and metacognition. This position provides leadership in student learning in academic disciplines across three divisions and interfaces with faculty in support of student learning. This position is especially crucial to the ARC as the staff member who is chosen will be the team member primarily tasked with administering the academic success coaching program as well as being a leader of the peer tutoring program in partnership with other ARC staff. This role works closely with other University units, including but not limited to the Writing and Language Studio, Library, the Center for Teaching and Learning, Student Affairs, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Services, and Assessment.

Essential Duties:
Coaching
1. Coach students who experience academic difficulty to develop an academic success plan and identify specific strategies towards developing. competencies to enhance their learning and develop themselves holistically.
2. Assess students’ academic support needs and make recommendations or referrals to other undergraduate offices or services as appropriate.
3. Additional coaching responsibilities may evolve over time as the ARC’s needs change.
4. Identify, develop, and implement electronic, media, and instructional technology resources to supplement students’ learning.
5. Teaching students how to assess their course demands, analyze academic tasks, construct and apply general and discipline-specific learning strategies.
6. Work with students to develop strong metacognitive and academic self-management skills through academic coaching and project-management consulting.
Tutoring
1. Collaborate with instructors of assigned courses to facilitate the integration of tutoring services with the full undergraduate academic experience of the University.
2. Develop a comprehensive undergraduate peer tutor program and maintain Peer Tutor International Certification from College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA).
3. Supervise, train, and coordinate the work of peer tutors with the goal of developing them to be the primary staff performing tutoring services as the ARC grows.
4. Provide and maintain records/assessment related to tutorial usage and operations.
Assessment & Office Support
1. Gather and analyze data related to ARC tutoring program attendance and utilization.
2. Provide reports to Director to assess utilization rate of different tutoring programs and whether any programming changes are needed.
3. Coordinate with other Learning Consultants to create and maintain peer tutoring schedule.
4. Schedule tutoring room to accommodate all required sessions.
5. create and maintain digital and physical flyers to inform tutors and students of tutoring services.
Programs and Events
1. Develop and deliver academic success workshops to promote learning strategies and facilitate learning.
2. Supervise, train, and coordinate the work of peer mentors.
3. Develop a comprehensive undergraduate peer mentor program and maintain Peer Educator International Certification from CRLA.
4. Conduct program assessment and evaluation to measure program outcomes and implement iterative program enhancements.
Other
1. Develop and monitor the assigned budget for program activities.
2. Work closely with other University units, including but not limited to the Writing and Language Studio, Library, the Center for Teaching and Learning, Student Affairs, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Services, and Assessment.
3. Participate in ARC staff meetings, professional development, and other ARC related activities.
4. Provide support related to advising office operations (e.g., New Student Orientation, Tutor and Mentor Training, Event Promotion, Student Recognition).

Secondary Duties:
1. Under the direction of the Director of Academic Advising, work in collaboration to provide leadership to tutoring and academic success initiatives.
2. May be involved in updating the Office of Undergraduate Advising website.
3. Perform other duties as assigned.
4. University employees' job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope as the University grows in size and complexity of program.

Required Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in an appropriate discipline is required.
2. At least 2 years of full-time related work experience is preferred but not required.
3. Strong writing and verbal communication skills in English. It would be helpful to have these in Chinese as well but not required.
4. Experience working with highly diverse undergraduate students.
5. An understanding of student cognitive, social, and emotional development and learning strategies at the post-secondary level.
6. Work well both independently and in a team.
7. Excellent planning, problem-solving and organizational skills.
8. Fluency with desktop applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data management systems.
